Former Plateau State governor now Senator, Joshua Dariye has decamped from PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).‎ Dariye's letter to decamp was read on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki. He represents Plateau Central senatorial district. According to Dariye, division in the national leadership of the PDP is the reason for his decamping to the APC. Supermodel Gigi Hadid was left seething after a man unexpectedly grabbed her from behind and tried to pick her up as she left a fashion show with her sister Bella. The 21-year-old who is in Italy for the Milan fashion show fought back forcing the man to drop her and flee down the street. Security had to intervene to stop her going after him and whisked her and her sister to a waiting car. She later took to twitter to defend her actions...

The full-back has called time on his playing career after 15 seasons at senior level, having been without a club since leaving Indian Super League side Atletico Kolkata in November last year. Photos: Former Adamawa state governor, Ngilari, gets N1million bail

Former Governor of Adamawa state, James Bala Ngilari was today granted bail by Justice Nathan Musa of the Adamawa State High Court, Yola in the sum of one million naira and a surety with landed property in Yola who must provide a court affidavit of means to that effect. Ngilari was remanded in the EFCC custody yesterday September 21st following his arraignment on 19-count charge bordering on alleged rigging of procurement process in the award of contract worth one hundred and sixty-seven million naira. The court has adjourned to 0ctober 10 for commencement of trial. Ngilari is being tried alongside his former secretary to the government and his commissioner for finance and budget, Messrs Ibrahim Andrew Welye and Sanda Jonathan Lamurde respectively.

Ondo 2016: APC submits Akeredolu’s name to INEC

The All Progressives Congress APC Thursday in Abuja jettisoned the recommendations of its Appeal Committee on the conduct of the Primary Election for the Ondo State Gubernatorial election, and submitted name of the winner of the election, Rotimi Akeredolu to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.  Director in charge of Voter Education and Publicity at the commission, Oluwole Osaze-Uzi confirmed this in a text message to Vanguard Thursday night.  While the deadline for the submission of candidates names lapsed yesterday (Thursday), the parties still have till October 12 to withdraw and replace their candidates. Asked whether INEC had received Akerdolu’s name, Uzi simply said “yes”. Breaking: Details of Yahoo’s 500m users’ accounts hacked, stolen

  Yahoo said Thursday a massive attack on its network in 2014 accessed data from at least 500 million users and may have been “state sponsored.” “Based on the ongoing investigation, Yahoo believes that information associated with at least 500 million user accounts was stolen,” a statement from the US Internet giant. “Yahoo is working closely with law enforcement on this matter.”  The comments were the first confirmation from Yahoo on the huge data breach, and come after a report earlier this year quoting a security researcher saying some 200 million accounts may have been accessed.  Stolen information may have included names, email address, birth dates, and scrambled passwords, along with encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers that could help hackers break into victims’ other online accounts, according to Yahoo.  The ongoing investigation suggested that looted data did not include unprotected passwords or information associated with payments or bank accoun

Senate to investigate MTN over $12bn repatriation allegation

The Senate on Thursday  agreed  to investigate an allegation that telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria, repatriated 12 billion dollars out of the country over a 10-year period.  The resolution followed a motion moved by Sen. Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi) who relied on a point of order to make the allegations. The Senate asked Melaye  to present documents at the next legislative day showing evidence of the transfer for immediate investigation.  Melaye had alleged that the South Africa-owned company had taken away over 12 billion dollars from Nigeria in the last 10 years.    “My respected colleagues, MTN Nigeria paid a sum of 284.9 million dollars on the 6th of February, 2001, to purchase their licence of operations in this country.    “Between 2006 and 2016, through four Nigerian Banks and a serving minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, MTN moved over 12 billion dollars out of Nigeria.  “That is about half of our external reserves. “If I get the nod of the Senate

Vanguard loses A-Ibom correspondent, Tom Moses

Vanguard Newspapers Correspondent in Akwa Ibom State Mr. Tom Moses, has passed on after a brief illness.  Moses, according to family sources died on Tuesday after battling with an undisclosed ill health for weeks. His widow, Mrs. Arit Tom Moses, told newsmen, yesterday, that her late husband’s death came as a shock to her because he was showing signs of recovery. She said: “He was not sick for long.  When he took ill, we took him to the hospital and after checking him, they told us that it was a minor illness, and then we took him to church for prayer. “My late husband’s sister called me on Monday because I was in Calabar, Cross River State, with the children that I should come to Uyo. When I came, I saw that he was recovering.  “When I asked him how he was feeling, he said that he was feeling better. The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, has declined to annul the election of Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson. ‎The court in a judgment delivered today, declined the appeal for annulment of Seriake's election which was filed by former governor of the state and APC candidate during the state election, Timipre Sylva. The election held on December 5th 2015 while a rerun held on January 9th this year.

Buhari signs Paris Agreement, seeks help on Lake Chad

President Muhammadu Buhari has, Thursday, signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and called for aid in the revival of Lake Chad basin.  The president after signing the agreement said that his signing of the Agreement demonstrated Nigeria’s commitment to a global effort to reverse the effects of the negative trend. The President said this on Thursday while addressing the opening of the meeting on “Taking Climate Action for Sustainable Development’’ in New York.  A statement issued in Abuja by Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the president, said the meeting was co-hosted by Nigeria and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).  Adesina stated that the meeting was one of the Side Events of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA71). He said that President Buhari had shortly before this event, signed the Paris Agreement, where he expressed Nigeria’s commitment to reducing “Green House Gas Emissions uncondition
