Cahill second only to Chelsea skipper Terry on Premier League scoring chart

Gary Cahill was on target once again for Chelsea against Southampton, with only John Terry having scored more goals in the Premier League from a defensive berth.
Those figures do not include penalties, which helps to nudge the likes of Everton full-back Leighton Baines down the pecking order.

Cahill can, however, be rightly proud of his return down the years, with the towering centre-half having now found the target on 26 occasions in the English top-flight.
He is some way behind his club captain at Stamford Bridge, but he still has a few years left in the tank at 31 years of age.

Cahill’s first Premier League goal was netted for Aston Villa, with an acrobatic overhead kick converted in a derby date with Birmingham City.
That was to be his only top-flight effort for the Villans, with 13 more added to his tally at Bolton Wanderers.

The 2009-10 campaign proved to be his most productive, but he has now matched that five-goal return.

He also has seven in all competitions and needs just one more to set a new personal best.
