Men of the Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Cross River State Police Command shot dead wanted criminal identified as Stephen Etim Edet at Moore road in Calabar on Wednesday morning, April 19. The deceased, a member of a notorious robbery gang that has been terrorizing the city for years was escaped with his men following a foiled robbery attack at a housing estate. Stephen was said to have been trailed and chased by the SARS patrol team from Bayside, Marina where he had crossed the Atakpa gully control site into the Police Barracks at Moore road and hid in someone's apartment after threatening the occupants. "When the SARS appeared on the scene, they combed and brought him out," said an eyewitness. No fewer than 1,000 applicants have applied for employment in the State Universal Basic Education Board Federal Teachers Scheme in Lagos. The Head, Public Relations of SUBEB, Mr Seyi Akitoye, on Tuesday said that the board were still receiving more applications even after the November 24 deadline. Akitoye said only 500 applicants would be shortlisted in Lagos out of which 135 teachers would be recruited by the Universal Basic Education Council in Abuja. He said that the names of those shortlisted in Lagos would be forwarded to Abuja for final screening. Akitoye said that UBEC would conduct the screening and test to select 135 successful applicants out of the 500 names that were shortlisted from Lagos State.
