  Men of the Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Cross River State Police Command shot dead wanted criminal identified as Stephen Etim Edet at Moore road in Calabar on Wednesday morning, April 19. The deceased, a member of a notorious robbery gang that has been terrorizing the city for years was escaped with his men following a foiled robbery attack at a housing estate. Stephen was said to have been trailed and chased by the SARS patrol team from Bayside, Marina where he had crossed the Atakpa gully control site into the Police Barracks at Moore road and hid in someone's apartment after threatening the occupants. "When the SARS appeared on the scene, they combed and brought him out," said an eyewitness. "When they brought him out, people gathered and the leader of the SARS team shouted 'waste that idiot, kill him' when asked by his boys what they should do. 1000 applicants jostle for 135 teaching jobs in Lagos

No fewer than 1,000 applicants have applied for employment in the State Universal Basic Education Board Federal Teachers Scheme in Lagos. The Head, Public Relations of SUBEB, Mr Seyi Akitoye, on Tuesday said that the board were still receiving more applications even after the November 24 deadline. Akitoye said only 500 applicants would be shortlisted in Lagos out of which 135 teachers would be recruited by the Universal Basic Education Council in Abuja. He said that the names of those shortlisted in Lagos would be forwarded to Abuja for final screening. Akitoye said that UBEC would conduct the screening and test to select 135 successful applicants out of the 500 names that were shortlisted from Lagos State. Trump picks trade fight with Canada

Trade tensions spiked between Washington and Ottawa on Tuesday as President Donald Trump accused Canada of being "very rough" on America and threatened to retaliate against restrictions on US dairy products. Trump also touted his administration's surprise decision late Monday to rekindle an old trade conflict with America's second-largest trading partner by slapping new tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber. "People don't realize, Canada has been very rough on the United States. Everyone thinks of Canada of being nice but they've outsmarted our politicians for many years," Trump told a group of farmers at the White House.  He said Canada was hurting American dairy farmers near the border, from Wisconsin to New York, by blocking dairy exports "and we're not going to put up with it."
