Buhari only advised governors to pay workers’ salaries – Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, said on Wednesday that President Muhammadu Buhari did not order state governors to pay workers’salary arrears before Christmas.

Ortom, who stated this during an interactive session with members of the Correspondent chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Government House, Makurdi,  said the President only advised  the governors to use  50 percent of the remaining Paris Club refund to pay workers so that they would enjoy Christmas .

“I don’t know where the stories about Mr. President s directing governors to clear salary arrears before Christmas is coming from. But I think the media got it wrong,” the governor said.

Trump picks trade fight with Canada

Trade tensions spiked between Washington and Ottawa on Tuesday as President Donald Trump accused Canada of being "very rough" on America and threatened to retaliate against restrictions on US dairy products. 1000 applicants jostle for 135 teaching jobs in Lagos

No fewer than 1,000 applicants have applied for employment in the State Universal Basic Education Board Federal Teachers Scheme in Lagos. The Head, Public Relations of SUBEB, Mr Seyi Akitoye, on Tuesday said that the board were still receiving more applications even after the November 24 deadline. Akitoye said only 500 applicants would be shortlisted in Lagos out of which 135 teachers would be recruited by the Universal Basic Education Council in Abuja. He said that the names of those shortlisted in Lagos would be forwarded to Abuja for final screening. Akitoye said that UBEC would conduct the screening and test to select 135 successful applicants out of the 500 names that were shortlisted from Lagos State.
